Brighton Installs Life-Saving Bleed Control Kits to Combat Knife Crime
Brighton is stepping up its fight against knife crime with two new bleed control kits now installed in West Street and The Level. These kits can stop fatal blood loss, a major killer in traumatic injuries, and are a crucial tool for emergency first aid.
Police and Community Join Forces in Safety Drive
The kits are funded by Sussex Police and the Sussex Violence Reduction Partnership (VRP), working alongside Project Youth, a community group dedicated to steering youngsters away from knife crime. This partnership highlights a strong, proactive effort to boost safety and protect vulnerable communities.
No Medics Needed – Simple Life-Saving Aid for All
The kits are designed for use by anyone, with no medical training required. Users can call 999 for step-by-step guidance from emergency operators who will advise whether to seal, pack, or wrap wounds before paramedics arrive. Each kit is packed with vital supplies like dressings, chest seals, tourniquets, gloves, and scissors, plus clear instructions for quick action.
“We placed these kits in areas known for knife crime and serious violence. While we hope they’re never needed, they’re a vital safeguard for the public,” said Sergeant James Ward from Brighton Neighbourhood Policing Team.
More Kits Coming to Keep Brighton Safe – Day and Night
Brighton’s commitment to public safety is growing. Four more kits will be installed across the city soon, with an additional six kits set for night-time venues to protect visitors during late hours. The message is clear – Brighton is serious about saving lives and cutting knife crime.
