New Chief Constable Takes Helm at Wiltshire Police
Chief Constable Roper, formerly a Commander with the Metropolitan Police Service, has stepped up to lead Wiltshire Police, taking over from Kier Pritchard. Later today, she will swear her oath of allegiance to King Charles III, officially marking the start of her tenure.
A Force Steeped in History
“It is an incredible honour to become the Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police,” Roper said. “I feel privileged to lead a force so rich in history.”
She added: “I am eager to work with my teams, communities, and partners to deliver top-notch service, execute the Police and Crime Commissioner’s plan, and keep Wiltshire safe.”
Committed to Restoring Trust and Excellence
Roper acknowledged the challenges facing policing today: “I am acutely aware of trust and confidence issues across the service. I am committed to supporting Wiltshire Police on its journey out of the HMICFRS Engage status and to ensuring the highest standards of policing across the board.”
She also paid tribute to her predecessor, saying, “I thank Kier for his incredible dedication and for handing over a force truly striving for excellence.”
Strong Backing from Police and Crime Commissioner
Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson welcomed Roper warmly: “I am delighted to have Chief Constable Roper join Wiltshire Police. I look forward to working closely with her to make Wiltshire safer for all who live and work here.”
“I am confident she will drive the crucial changes already underway to meet the improvements outlined in HMIC’s PEEL report. We both agree that improving trust, confidence, and standards is vital to delivering the police service the public deserve.”
