Bomb scare on East Sussex beaches ends safely!

Experts called to suspicious munitions

Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) experts rushed to the beaches between Birling Gap and Cow Gap, west of Eastbourne, on Saturday afternoon (15 June) after several suspicious items were spotted. Locals feared the worst as safety cordons went up.

All clear – munitions found inert

Thankfully, after thorough checks, the bomb squad confirmed all the devices were completely inert. No danger was posed to beachgoers.

Police thank public for patience

With the safety risk nullified, police swiftly lifted all cordons. Officers thanked anyone affected for their “patience and understanding” during the careful risk assessment.
