Man Loses Eye After Brutal Attack Over Clown Mask Joke in Stoke Newington
Joke Sparks Violent Assault Outside Chip Shop
On Wednesday, 2 June, around 7.30pm, a man in his early 30s was enjoying a night out with a friend outside a fish and chip shop on Stoke Newington High Street, N16. The mood turned nasty when two men entered the restaurant—one wearing a clown mask.
The victim made a harmless joke about the mask, saying they probably wouldn’t let him in. But one of the masked men took offence.
Attack Turns Ugly: Chair Thrown, Victim Pummeled
The pair followed the victim and his friend outside. Suddenly, one hurled a metal chair at the man before launching a savage punch-up. The victim was repeatedly struck in the face before the attackers fled the scene.
Police and London Ambulance Service arrived quickly, rushing the injured man to hospital.
Horrific Injuries: Broken Nose, Cheekbone & Lost Eye
The victim suffered serious injuries including a fractured cheekbone, broken nose, broken finger, and tragically, he lost sight in one eye.
The suspects are described as two black males. No arrests have been made.
Detective Constable Gary Holland said: “A simple joke led to a man being so badly beaten that he has lost sight in one of his eyes. How can a trivial remark cause such terrible consequences? Anyone with information should come forward. If you want to stay anonymous, call Crimestoppers. Please help us catch these thugs.”
