‘Noxious Liquid’ Sprayed at Bookies and Post Office in Lewisham Attacks
A man launched a terrifying liquid attack in two separate Lewisham shops within minutes on Friday night.
Liquid Assault at Randlesdown Road Bookies
At around 8.50pm on 17 December 2021, a man walked into a bookmakers on Randlesdown Road, SE6. He approached staff and bizarrely asked, “Do you have any games?” When they asked for clarification, he repeated the phrase. Alarmed, staff locked the rear door.
Undeterred, the man squirted a clear, noxious liquid from a large 500ml water bottle over the security screens, hitting two staff members and causing minor injuries. He then fled.
Same Man Strikes Moments Later at Post Office
Just four minutes later, 8.54pm, the same suspect burst into the nearby Post Office. He jumped over the counter and sprayed the same liquid straight into the face of the worker behind the till before making his getaway down Brookehowse Road heading south.
Suspect Description and Police Appeal
- Black male, approximately 5ft 8ins tall
- Spoke with an English accent, but very quietly
- Carrying a 500ml bottle of noxious liquid
Detective Constable Nathan Burrows, Met Specialist Crime: “Fortunately, the injuries were minor with no lasting harm. But the violent nature and blatant disrespect for public safety is deeply concerning. We need to find this man quickly. Despite poor image quality, we hope someone can put a name to him. These were frightening attacks with no clear motive. Anyone with info should get in touch immediately.”
