Gun and Grenades Haul Sparks Major Manchester Police Operation
Detectives from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Group have raided six homes across South Manchester after a terrifying weapons find in Stretford.
Three Guns and Four Grenades Recovered
The crackdown began on Thursday 28 January when officers executed a warrant at a Milton Close property. Inside, they seized a suspected firearm and two hand grenades. The searches continued through to Saturday 30 January, uncovering a total of three firearms and four suspected hand grenades.
Two of the grenades were found on a man stopped by officers on Taylor Road. Police quickly cordoned off the area and evacuated local residents as a safety precaution.
Local Evacuations and Ongoing Investigations
The evacuation has since been lifted and residents have returned home safely. Five men remain in police custody for questioning. A cordon is still in place at Milton Close as investigations continue.
“We appreciate the significant police presence has caused disruption,” said Detective Superintendent Danny Inglis, GMP’s Serious and Organised Crime Lead. “We thank the community for their patience and support as our enquiries continue.”
“Due to the dangerous nature of these items, the British Army are assisting to ensure public safety. We’ve also worked closely with Trafford Council to handle evacuations swiftly and safely.”
Police have promised to keep the public updated as the probe unfolds.
