Five-Year-Old Girl Stabbed to Death in Mitcham
Detectives have launched a murder probe after a tragic stabbing in Mitcham left a five-year-old girl dead. While the victim’s identity is yet to be officially confirmed, police are confident she is Sayagi Sivanantham.
Knife Attack Horror on Monarch Parade
Officers rushed to a Monarch Parade address at 4pm on Tuesday, 30 June, following reports of two people injured in a stabbing. On arrival, they found Sayagi and a woman wounded by knife attacks.
Sayagi was rushed to hospital by the London Ambulance Service but was sadly pronounced dead. A post-mortem will be carried out to confirm the cause of death.
Woman in Critical Condition – Police Investigation Underway
The 35-year-old woman also suffered serious knife injuries and remains in critical condition at hospital. Police say all parties involved knew each other.
No arrests have been made yet, but officers aren’t currently looking for anyone else linked to the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Justin Howick said: “This is a tragic incident and we are working very hard to fully understand what has happened.
“While this heartbreaking event will shock the local community, there is no cause for alarm as we are not seeking anyone else in connection with Sayagi’s death.
“I urge anyone with information to come forward to help our investigation.”
Superintendent Richard Smith added: “A family is grieving for their little girl, and we are doing everything we can to support them. This terrible incident has left the local community in shock.
“I want to pay tribute to the police officers and ambulance crews who responded so quickly and tirelessly to try to save Sayagi. She will remain in our thoughts.”
