Body Found in Abi Fisher Search Sparks Murder Probe
Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a body was found in South Yorkshire during the search for missing Abi Fisher.
Body Discovered Near Brierley
On Sunday, 10 July, officers discovered a body in undergrowth off Southmoor Road near Brierley, South Yorkshire. While formal identification is yet to be completed, it is believed to be 29-year-old Abi Fisher from Castleford. Her family has been informed and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Man Arrested on Murder Suspicion
A 29-year-old man is currently held on suspicion of murder as police intensify their investigation. Authorities are appealing for public help to solve the case.
Police Urge Public to Submit Dashcam Footage
Officers are asking drivers with dashcams who were on the B6273 Southmoor Road between Hemsworth and Great Houghton between 8.15am and 9.15am on Saturday, 9 July, to submit their footage. The footage could prove vital in piecing together the events leading up to Abi’s disappearance.
“On behalf of the police and Abi’s family, I would like to thank everyone who helped in the search,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Swift of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team. “We understand this will distress many. The body is yet to be formally identified, and we will update as soon as that is confirmed. We urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.”
