Man Dies and Another Critically Injured in Ilford Fire on A406
Detectives have identified the victim of a deadly fire in Ilford. Ionut Manea, 38, a homeless Romanian man, died in hospital on Wednesday, 19 June after a blaze broke out by the A406.
Two Romanian Nationals Caught up in Tragic Blaze
A second victim, aged 43 and also homeless, remains in critical condition in an Essex burns unit. Both men were living in a temporary homeless camp near the southbound carriageway when the fire erupted late on Tuesday, 18 June.
There is no known relation between the two Romanian men. Ionut suffered almost 100% burns and died hours after being admitted to an east London hospital.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Homicide detectives are hunting for anyone with information about the fire. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said:
“If you know anything at all, however insignificant it might seem, we need to hear from you. It could be the crucial piece to understanding how and why this terrible tragedy happened.”
He added:
“Both victims were well known in their community. If you saw these men on the verge or have dash cam footage, please come forward. This horrendous incident has sadly claimed one life and left another fighting for his.”
