Man Blows Up Immigration Centre, Found Dead Nearby
Chaos erupted at a Home Office immigration centre in Dover after a man lobbed petrol bombs at the building before being found dead nearby. Police say he took his own life moments after the attack.
Attack at The Viaduct
At 11.22am, emergency services raced to The Viaduct in Dover after reports of an explosion. Witnesses saw a man in a striped top hurl petrol bombs from a white SEAT SUV targeting the centre.
A police spokesperson revealed: “Two to three incendiary devices had been thrown outside and into the premises by a single suspect who arrived at the scene in a car.”
Suspect Found Dead With Unexploded Device
The gunman was swiftly identified and found dead at a nearby petrol station. Police confirmed he had hanged himself. A second unexploded device was discovered in his vehicle, but experts confirmed it posed no further threat after being safely disabled by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.
Migrants Moved for Safety as Investigation Continues
Despite the dramatic attack, the immigration site remained operational. Around 700 migrants were moved to Manston for their protection during the ongoing police probe. Kent detectives continue to investigate the shocking incident.
