ITVX Drops Star-Studded Cast for Irvine Welsh’s Crime Season 2
ITVX has unveiled the cast for the eagerly awaited second series of Irvine Welsh’s Crime. This gripping psychological procedural thriller, adapted by Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh, is set to stream exclusively on ITV’s new free platform, ITVX.
The six-part drama is currently filming across Scotland. It’s produced by the acclaimed Buccaneer (known for Marcella and The Burning Girls) alongside Off Grid Film and TV. Fans can expect a dark, intense ride through Scotland’s shadowy crime world.
Dougray Scott Returns as Troubled Detective DI Ray Lennox
Dougray Scott, famous for Mission Impossible 2 and Twin Town, reprises his role as the tortured DI Ray Lennox. His powerhouse performance in season one earned him a coveted International Emmy nomination for Best Actor.
Scott headlines a stellar Scottish cast, with Ken Stott (Rebus, The Missing) and Joanna Vanderham (Dancing on the Edge) back as Chief Superintendent Bob Toal and DS Amanda Drummond respectively. The gritty drama also welcomes John Simm (Doctor Who, Grace) and Derek Riddell (Silent Witness). Plus, in a unique twist, Dougray’s son Gabriel Scott (1 of Dragon) joins the show alongside his dad.
Fresh Faces and Shocking Twists in Season 2
The new series plunges DI Lennox back into the chaos of 1 Serious Crimes. He’s fighting to prove he’s fully recovered from his breakdown after closing the Mr Confectioner case—only to find the team dynamics shaken up. Bob Toal is struggling, Amanda Drummond’s freshly promoted, and two fresh recruits shake up the squad: the sly Tommy Stark and failed actor Norrie Erskine.
When a former colleague is viciously attacked, Lennox and Drummond uncover a dark web of vengeance, identity, and social justice tangled with a hush-hush attempted murder of a high-ranking official at a luxury hotel.
As Lennox delves into Edinburgh’s seediest saunas, crack dens, and posh hotels, he hits brick walls—there’s a high-level Establishment cover-up in full swing. The case takes a deadly turn when one of Lennox’s own comes under threat. Chasing clues from a scandal 30 years old, he realises the killer he’s hunting might not be the one pulling the strings.
Dougray Scott: “Diving Deeper Into Lennox’s Past”
“I’m thrilled that I get to continue playing this complex and dynamic character, and to once again get to work with this magnificent creative team,” Scott said. “Season 2 takes us even deeper into Lennox’s past, and helps us understand his persona even more. I couldn’t be happier!”
