Eastbourne Launches Night Safety Marshals to Crackdown on Night-Time Crime

Eastbourne is beefing up night-time security with a brand new squad of Night Safety Marshals hitting the streets from Friday, January 26. These marshals will patrol the town centre from 8pm to 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, acting fast to tackle trouble and keep revellers safe.

Patrolling the Night: A Team Effort

This new initiative is a joint effort between local agencies including 123, the police, Street Pastors, SIA door staff, and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP). Together, they’ll form a visible, proactive presence in Eastbourne’s nightlife hotspots.

Inspector Sarah Taylor of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team said:

“Protecting our community from violence and crime, especially during the night-time economy, is a top priority. Everyone deserves to enjoy a night out in a safe environment, and Eastbourne remains a safe place to do just that.”

High-Tech Training to Spot & Help Those in Need

Equipped with specialist training, the marshals will spot vulnerable people quickly, offer help, and connect them to support services or alert the police when needed. They’ll keep constant communication with officers to ensure swift action on any incidents.

Inspector Taylor added:

“Alongside existing measures like dedicated police cars and targeted patrols under Project WAVE, plus safety schemes like Ask for Angela, the Night Safety Marshals are a vital new layer of protection.”

Eastbourne’s Nightlife Just Got Safer

  • Marshals on duty Fridays and Saturdays, 8pm–4am
  • Working closely with police and licensed venues
  • Trained to assist vulnerable people and tackle anti-social behaviour
  • Part of ongoing efforts to keep Eastbourne safe after dark

This fresh boost to town centre security promises safer nights out for everyone. Eastbourne is clearly stepping up to make sure fun doesn’t come at the cost of safety.
