80-Year-Old Man Dies After Brutal Dog Walk Attack in Franklin Park
An elderly man, 80, has tragically died after a savage assault while walking his dog in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town. The attack happened Sunday evening, September 1, sparking a full murder investigation by Leicestershire Police.
Violent Assault Near Park Entrance
The victim was attacked near the Bramble Way entrance at around 6:30 PM by a group of youths. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the suspects fled before officers arrived.
Five Children Arrested Over Murder
Police have arrested five children linked to the attack: two 12-year-old girls, one 12-year-old boy, and two 14-year-olds – one girl and one boy. All remain under investigation for murder.
Detective Inspector Emma Matts said:
“Following the victim’s death last night, this has become a murder inquiry. We are working swiftly and have made several arrests as we piece together the details.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Officers are urgently appealing for anyone who was in Franklin Park or near Bramble Way between 6:00 and 6:45 PM on Sunday to come forward with information. A police cordon remains in place as inquiries continue.
Due to prior contact with the victim, Leicestershire Police have voluntarily referred the case to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC). No further details about this contact have been released.
