Chemical Scare Sparks Emergency Response at Havant School
Emergency services raced to Warblington School in Havant this morning after reports of a chemical smell sparked panic.
Hazmat Teams Descend on Havant School
The alarm was raised at 9:54am, prompting police, fire crews, and ambulance teams to rush to the Southleigh Road site. A Hazard Area Response Team was called in, supported by a specialized Detection Identification and Monitoring Unit (DIM) from Winchester.
Five Taken to Hospital, But No Serious Harm
Three adults and one teenager were taken to hospital for checks. Thankfully, none showed signs of being overcome by the fumes. A protective cordon remains in place as firefighters and police work hard to identify the source of the smell.
School Reassures Students and Parents
“There has been an incident at the school. The emergency services are in attendance and investigating a smell. There are no chemicals involved and students and staff are safe in the Sports Hall,” said the headteacher.
Five people—three teachers and two students—have been affected. Parents of those involved have been contacted directly.
The school urges parents not to visit the site and promises updates as the situation unfolds.
