Acid Spill Sparks Major Fire Brigade Blitz in Sidcup
Hydrochloric Acid Leak Triggers Emergency Response
Fire crews and officers from the London Fire Brigade raced to a factory on Cray Road, Sidcup just before 9pm tonight following reports of a hazardous chemical spill. The incident involved a significant leak of hydrochloric acid inside the boiler house.
Six Fire Engines and Hazmat Teams Deployed
Witnesses saw firefighters suiting up in chemical protective gear and breathing apparatus before entering the boiler room to tackle the dangerous spill. Six fire engines stormed into the site through the Edgington Road entrance as crews worked to contain the acid leak, which is part of the site’s sanitation process.
Area Locked Down, Hundreds Evacuated
A224 Cray Road is currently closed both ways from the A20 Sidcup By-Pass (Crittal’s Corner) to A211 Sidcup Hill due to the ongoing police and fire operation. Around 200 people had already evacuated the building before firefighters arrived, and thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
An LFB spokesperson said: “Firefighters dealt with a chemical incident at a factory on Cray Road in Sidcup. The hydrochloric acid leak has now been isolated.”
