Cyclist Dies in Horror Crash with Volkswagen in Kirkby
A tragic collision claimed the life of a 25-year-old cyclist in Kirkby this morning. The smash happened just before 7am at the junction of Moorgate Road and East Lancashire Road, heading towards Liverpool.
The crash involved a white Volkswagen Sirocco and the cyclist. Despite emergency crews rushing the man to hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers.
Driver Arrested on Multiple Charges
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody. He faces serious allegations including causing death by dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, and having illegal drug levels in his system.
Police Hunt for Witnesses and Footage
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson said:
