Firefighters rushed to Farnborough Railway Station in the dead of night after objects were hurled at the building, sparking fires and chaos.
Rubbish Bins Set Ablaze in Early Morning Attack
Three fire engines from Rushmoor were scrambled to Union Street just after 3am on Tuesday. On arrival, crews found several rubbish bins on fire near the station. The flames prompted a partial closure, with the main ticket office still sealed off hours later.
Station Partially Closed, Passengers Advised to Use Ticket Machines
South Western Railway warned customers the main ticket office would remain shut this morning due to the incident. Passengers were told to buy tickets using machines on the platform instead. While the station is still open and trains are running, parts remain cordoned off and guarded by British Transport Police.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Team Investigate Arson Attack
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said crews will work with partner agencies at first light. An arson task force officer is on site collecting evidence. One fire crew stayed for two hours awaiting station staff. Meanwhile, British Transport Police said they were unable to comment at this stage.
