Major Firefighting Effort Underway

Eight pumping appliances and a specialist unit have been dispatched from multiple stations, including Caversham Road, Dee Road, Whitley Wood, Bracknell, and others. Two water carriers have also been brought in to assist the teams fighting the blaze.

Road Closures Cause Disruption

The fire is burning close to a burial ground near the area, prompting police to impose hard road closures. The Mortimer to Burghfield Road is shut at the junction with St Catherine’s Hill to keep the public away from danger and allow emergency services clear access.

“We received a call and sent fire crews just after 1:30pm this afternoon to the Englefield Estate,” a Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said. “A number of resources have been deployed to bring the incident under control.”
