Ambulances Team Up with Fire Crews at Essex Stations

Ambulances and their crews are now based at Frinton and Dunmow fire stations in Essex. This bold move aims to slash emergency response times and bring vital services closer to local residents. It’s part of a three-year collaboration between the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS).

Closer Partnership for Faster Emergency Help

The project strengthens ties between fire and ambulance teams, working hand-in-hand to boost support for local communities. Moira Bruin, deputy chief fire officer, said:

“I’d like to give a warm welcome to our ambulance service colleagues at Frinton and Dunmow fire stations. Our crews already collaborate daily during incidents, but this fantastic partnership lets us work even closer and provide an even better service to the communities we serve. We hope to expand this to more fire stations soon. Together, we can make Essex a safer place to live, work, and travel.”

Leaders Back The Game-Changer

EEAST’s deputy chief executive, Kate Vaughton, added:

“We’re delighted to partner with Essex Fire and Rescue to use fire stations as local response posts for ambulances. This will help us respond faster to medical emergencies and get patients the support they need.”

Roger Hirst, Essex’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, praised the initiative:

“This collaboration focuses on protecting Essex’s most vulnerable residents. By working together, we can better tackle crime, health crises, fire, and hazards to keep our communities safe.”

Two Services, One Goal: Saving Lives

Essex Fire Service hailed the project as a commitment to prioritise public safety and enhance service delivery. By pooling resources and expertise, fire and ambulance teams will offer a seamless emergency response, ensuring residents get fast, efficient care when it matters most.
