18-Hour Hostage Drama Ends at Hamburg Airport
After an intense 18-hour standoff, police have arrested a man and his 4-year-old daughter at Hamburg Airport, northern Germany’s busiest aviation hub. The dramatic hostage situation forced the airport to shut down, causing chaos for thousands of travellers.
Quiet Arrest, Child Safe
Authorities took the suspect into custody without any resistance. Remarkably, the child appeared unharmed throughout the ordeal, police confirmed in a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“The suspect got out of the car with his daughter. The man was arrested by emergency services without resistance. The child appears to be unharmed,” said a police spokesperson.
Airport Shutdown Hits Thousands
The suspect and child had been trapped in a vehicle parked right beneath an aircraft. The airport closure on Saturday night impacted 286 flights and disrupted plans for roughly 34,500 passengers due to fly on Sunday. Officials have yet to announce when normal operations will resume.
Family Contact Amid Crisis
Police revealed the child’s mother maintained contact with the father during the tense standoff, but additional details remain under wraps as investigations continue.
