Hero Cops Rescue Nearly 100 from Burning Tower Block

A team of fearless police officers have been nominated for the National Police Bravery Awards 2024 after rescuing almost 100 residents from a raging fire in a Hounslow tower block.

Quick-Thinking Officers Save Lives

On 7 September 2023, PC Andrew Thompson and PC Jordan Watson were on patrol when they spotted flames engulfing the top floor of a flat. Without wasting a second, PC Watson alerted control and called for the London Ambulance Service.

They were soon joined by PC George Ewart and another officer. Braving thick smoke and intense heat, the four officers stormed into the blaze, splitting into pairs to evacuate residents. They comforted terrified occupants while marking flats they couldn’t reach for the arriving London Fire Brigade.

Teamwork and Bravery Avert Disaster

PC Thompson and PC Watson quickly found the fire’s source, helping firefighters attack the blaze fast. Their fearless efforts led to the safe evacuation of more than 90 people. They only left the building when the fire brigade ordered them out.

Even after, the officers helped identify those needing urgent medical attention and supported the council in looking after displaced residents.

Praise Pours in for Police Heroes

Metropolitan Police Federation Chair Rick Prior praised the officers’ bravery, saying their swift actions likely prevented tragedy. Superintendent Phil Taylor called their courage and quick response “instrumental” in avoiding a disaster.

The nomination for the Police Bravery Awards recognises their outstanding dedication and selflessness — a shining example of the best in the Met Police.

The heroic deeds of PC Thompson, PC Watson, PC Ewart, and their unnamed colleague remind us of the daily dangers police face to keep communities safe.
