Fatal Smash Near Ely Shocks Locals
Tragedy struck the A10 near Ely on the evening of 12 February. At around 6.40pm, a terrifying head-on collision ripped through the single carriageway between Littleport and Ely, involving a massive HGV fuel tanker and an Audi.
Fuel Tanker Flips Into Field; Audi Thrown Down Road
Police say the tanker veered off the road, ending up in a nearby field, while the Audi was slammed almost 100 metres further along the carriageway. Emergency services rushed to the scene of the deadly crash near Chettisham.
Two Women Die Instantly, Driver Arrested
The Audi’s 25-year-old driver and her 71-year-old passenger, both from Littleport, were pronounced dead at the scene. The tanker driver, a 40-year-old man from Basildon, was unharmed but has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
