Bus Blaze Sparks Chaos in Twickenham
Firefighters rushed to a dramatic scene this afternoon after a bus erupted in flames on Richmond Road, Twickenham. Panic and chaos broke out as the vehicle went up in smoke.
Major Fire Response as Bus Goes Up in Smoke
London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews tackled the blaze head-on. Five fire engines and around 30 firefighters were deployed to the scene. Footage online shows the intense battle against the inferno engulfing the diesel single-decker bus.
“The driver and all passengers evacuated safely before our arrival. Thankfully, no injuries reported so far,” confirmed an LFB spokesperson.
Road Remains Closed as Investigation Underway
The bus was completely destroyed. Emergency crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston, and Kingston responded swiftly. Despite their efforts, Richmond Road remains shut, with police advising the public to avoid the area for the rest of the day.
The incident began at 1:18 PM and was brought under control by 2:26 PM. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
Ongoing Safety Concerns Plague London’s Bus Network
This isn’t the first bus fire to hit London this year. January saw fires at Putney Bus Garage, North Woolwich, and Wimbledon, raising fresh concerns over public safety on the capital’s buses. Meanwhile, months of disruption from planned bus workers’ strikes in southwest London have left commuters frustrated.
Good news for some: around 40 control room staff in Battersea and Twickenham recently called off a strike after reaching an agreement with Transport UK.
Authorities stress the urgent need to safeguard London’s public transport and prevent future disasters like today’s fiery Twickenham ordeal.
