Hundreds Rally to Back Met Police in Coronavirus Fight
More than 700 volunteers have stepped up to help the Metropolitan Police tackle the challenges posed by coronavirus. Alongside ex-officers rejoining the ranks, these volunteers are hitting the streets to support Londoners.
Volunteers Hit the Streets with Vital Crime Prevention Work
Last weekend, volunteers were busy delivering thousands of crime prevention booklets and joining reassurance patrols. On Friday, 29 volunteers handed out 3,000 copies of the Met’s Little Book of Phone Scams in Eltham. This guide helps protect vulnerable people from coronavirus-related online fraud and phone scams.
The very next day, 27 volunteers took to Bow and Bethnal Green, patrolling alongside officers, distributing leaflets, and putting up posters to keep communities informed and safe.
Community Spirit Shines in Tough Times
“We’re grateful to the hundreds who’ve stepped forward to volunteer with the Met during this tricky period,” said Commander Catherine Roper. “They’re offering crucial crime prevention advice and community support to keep Londoners safe.”
Volunteer Sophie Kydoniefs, who was distributing leaflets in Eltham, added: “Phone scams are on the rise, so it’s vital to look out for vulnerable people. I wanted to give back during this pandemic and be part of my community.”
