Shock Grooming Scandal: Vape Shops Trading Favors for Free Vapes
Illegal vape shops in the West Midlands are at the centre of a horrifying grooming scandal. An explosive investigation has revealed children as young as 11 are being handed free vapes—if they trade sexual favours.
Trading Standards officers warn this is the beginning of a new grooming crisis gripping the region.
Vape Shops Tied to Criminal Gangs, Say Officials
The Dudley Trading Standards enforcement team has ripped the lid off a dark underworld lurking behind these rogue retailers. Officer Richard Timmins told Channel 4 News:
“I had one the other day, a child as young as 11 purchasing vapes from a shop — it’s just disgusting.”
Raids uncovered condoms in staff pockets and a Kurdish phrasebook with creepy lines like “you’re pretty,” “I love your hair,” and “you’re young and beautiful.” Tips also poured in about 12-year-olds being driven to secret locations by men linked to these stores.
Dark Histories and Ongoing Crime Links Revealed
In a shocking Channel 4 filmed raid, police shut down a vape shop notorious for targeting kids. The business had been previously busted for selling to children, while a former owner faced charges of rape and strangulation.
Despite not being officially listed, police suspect this individual still pulls strings behind the scenes. The current owner, who went by the name Javid, denied any wrongdoing, blaming his predecessor. But officers caught him meeting with the former owner, evicted for illegal sales.
“It just shows that even though he’s been evicted, he will still be the business owner.” – Officer Richard Timmins
The suspect linked to the shop reportedly has police markers for sexual offences, violent crimes, and firearms possession—allegations he strongly denies.
Crackdown Hits Nationwide Crime Money Laundering
The Channel 4 exposé comes amid a massive national clampdown by the National Crime Agency (NCA). In November 2025, hundreds of mini-marts, vape shops, barbers, and takeaways were raided in a bid to crush illegal trading networks.
The operation led to 920 arrests, inspections of nearly 3,000 businesses, and seizures of millions of pounds worth of illegal goods.
- 70 kilograms of cannabis recovered
- Large sums of cash confiscated
- 340+ notices issued for illegal renting and working
The NCA estimates that dirty money worth £12 billion flows through the UK each year, fueling organised crime. Trading Standards confirm investigations into vape shops linked to child grooming remain active, with more arrests expected.
