Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run on Portsmouth’s Winston Churchill Avenue

A woman has tragically died after being struck by a car in Portsmouth’s Sommers Town area, police have confirmed.

Emergency services rushed to Winston Churchill Avenue late Tuesday night. Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Hit-and-Run Driver Still At Large

Witnesses say the driver failed to stop and fled, leaving the victim for dead. Hampshire Police have launched a full investigation and set up a forensic tent at the scene.

Road closures remain in place, shutting both directions of Winston Churchill Avenue between Victoria Road North and Isambard Brunel Road. Drivers are urged to find alternative routes.

Forensics Hunt Clues to Snarer Driver

Specialist officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Policing Collision Investigation Unit are combing the area for evidence. They will remain on site for several hours in a bid to identify the hit-and-run vehicle and its driver.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Officers are on scene dealing with a serious collision. We were called at 9.32pm on 3 August to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian. Road closures are likely to be in place for some time. We advise using alternative routes.”

“Any witnesses are urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 2091.”
