IOPC Launches Probe After Shocking Paddington Police Chase Crash

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has opened an investigation following a high-speed police chase in Paddington that ended in a serious crash. A man suffered life-threatening injuries while a woman sustained life-changing harm.

Early Hours Chase Ends in Devastation

The drama unfolded around 4:20am on Friday, April 4, when the car fled a Metropolitan Police vehicle before smashing into street furniture near Westbourne Terrace. Emergency teams, including the London Ambulance Service, raced to the scene. Both victims, in their twenties, were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

IOPC Investigates Police Pursuit

IOPC spokespeople confirmed they are conducting an independent probe. They revealed investigators visited the scene and questioned officers involved. A spokesperson said:

“We were notified about a collision involving a car and street furniture in west London following a brief pursuit by a marked Met Police vehicle after the driver failed to stop.

The vehicle mounted the pavement and crashed, seriously injuring the two occupants. They have been hospitalised.

Investigators are gathering information and will decide if further action is needed.”
