Isle of Wight Caught in Massive County Lines Drugs Crackdown

Hampshire Constabulary has smashed a major County Lines drug operation, seizing over £28,000 worth of drugs and recovering £12,000 in cash during a high-octane week of action. Police arrested 35 suspects as part of a nationwide crackdown targeting ruthless urban gangs spreading drug crime into rural areas — including the Isle of Wight.

35 Arrests and £28k Drugs Haul

In the week starting 21 January, Hampshire joined forces with police across the UK for a blitz led by the National Crime Agency. Officers swooped on county lines dealers, executing warrants, conducting stop-and-searches, and visiting schools to warn youngsters about the dangers of gangs.

Working with the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit and British Transport Police, cops targeted County Lines networks moving drugs into smaller towns and countryside areas. At Isle of Wight ferry terminals, drug-sniffing dogs checked passengers coming to and from the mainland.

What’s County Lines? A Deadly Business

County Lines involves urban gangs using a single phone line to push drugs into new territories. This ‘line’ becomes a prized asset protected fiercely by violence and intimidation. Vulnerable people, often young or struggling with addiction, are groomed to move and sell drugs, spreading crime to previously safe areas.

Hampshire’s Fortress plan aims to make the county and the Isle of Wight a no-go zone for drug dealers who profit at the community’s expense.

Top Cops Speak Out

“This week of action has been hugely successful,” said Superintendent Matthew Reeves. “County Lines pose the biggest threat, risk, and harm to our communities. It’s not just big cities – Hampshire is affected too. Young people from all backgrounds are being groomed for drug dealing.”

“This crime needs a team effort. Anyone worried about someone involved should contact us or our partners. We’re working with schools, social care, transport networks, and charities to tackle this menace together.”

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Southey added: “We’re working hard with our partners to track down the worst offenders. County Lines criminals exploit the vulnerable and harm society on a massive scale. We won’t tolerate drug supply in the South East and are determined to bring these gangs to justice.”

Community Call: Stand Up and Speak Out

Police urge communities to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity. The battle against County Lines is far from over, but with relentless policing and public support, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight aim to starve gangs of their deadly drug trade.
