Isle of Wight School Hit by Cyber Attack – Kids’ Data at Risk
Haylands Primary School on the Isle of Wight has fallen victim to a nasty cyber attack, exposing sensitive info about pupils. Hackers reportedly accessed names, dates of birth, addresses, and school records including attendance and behaviour files.
Headteacher Sounds Alarm
Lisa Nicholson, the school’s head, revealed the breach after discovering malware lurking in the school’s IT system. A thorough investigation uncovered several unauthorised log-ins to their servers. She’s warned parents that a data breach can’t yet be ruled out.
Security Beefed Up as Police Join Probe
The school acted fast, launching an urgent security review, scrubbing the malware, and tightening cyber defence. Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they’re now investigating the breach and working closely with the school.
“It is very sad that a primary school should be cyber attacked in this way,” said Mrs Nicholson. “There is little more we can add while the police investigation is ongoing.”
