TV star Katie Piper is taking a bold new step in her recovery journey – she’s trying out an artificial eye, over 16 years after a brutal acid attack left her with severe burns and partial blindness.
Emotional New Chapter
The Loose Women panellist, 41, posted a heartfelt video on Instagram showing her being fitted with a prosthetic eye. She wrote:
“After many years battling with my eye health, I’ve reached the end of the road somewhat, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell. “This marks the start of a journey to have an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me. “As always, I’m incredibly grateful to all those in the NHS and private healthcare system for their talent and kindness.”
Katie also invited others who have undergone similar procedures to share their stories, admitting she feels both hopeful and nervous.

The TV presenter’s brave update sparked an outpouring of love. Stacey Dooley and Gaby Roslin left heart emojis, while model Lisa Snowdon hailed Katie a “warrior” and “true inspiration”. Singer Lucy Spraggan added:
“I was just trying to think of a word to describe you, and I literally can’t – your energy surpasses words. You are a wonder.”
Katie’s Long Road to Recovery
Since surviving the acid attack in March 2008 – a horrific assault by her ex-boyfriend when she was just 24 – Katie has undergone hundreds of operations.
In 2022, she revealed on Loose Women that she had an emergency cornea transplant after a painful perforation in her left, blind eye.
A Life Dedicated to Others
In 2009, Katie founded the Katie Piper Foundation to support burn survivors and those with disfigurement injuries. Her work earned her an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Surgeons.
