Kent Police Widen Hunt for PCSO Julia James’ Killer
Kent Police have ramped up their search in the tragic murder probe of PCSO Julia James, found dead near Akholt Wood, Snowdown, just before 4pm on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
New Search Areas Targeted
Detectives from Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are now expanding their searches beyond the initial crime scene. Officers in Aylesham are scouring new locations around the woodland as part of the intensified investigation.
They urge anyone who was in the area bounded by Spinney Lane (North), Aylesham Road (East), Holt Street (South), and Pond Lane (West) between 1pm and 4.30pm on the day of the murder to come forward immediately.
Assistant Chief Constable Tom Richards said, “I would like to thank the local community for their fantastic support so far. We are incredibly grateful for their compassion and patience whilst we continue this investigation.”
“We continue to urge anyone with information to contact us. We are keeping an open mind and not ruling anything out.”
Case Update: Julia’s Last Moments
Julia James, 53, had been working from home before taking a walk with her Jack Russell, Toby, near Akholt Wood. She was found with fatal head injuries, confirmed by post-mortem, around 4pm.
Detectives have released a photo showing Julia in the clothes she last wore: a light blue waterproof coat, blue jeans, and dark brown Wellington-style boots. This is the same outfit she had on that fateful day, aside from her gloves.
Massive Police Checks Continue
One week after the murder, on Tuesday, May 4, police officers conducted extensive road checks in Aylesham and Snowdown. Between 12.30pm and 6.30pm, 449 vehicles were stopped and drivers questioned as enquiries ramp up.
ACC Richards added, “The local community will continue to see an increased police presence in the Aylesham and Snowdown areas whilst Kent Police supports residents and conducts enquiries.”
