Kent Police Launch Knife Crime Crackdown in Ashford
Knife Crime Awareness Campaign Kicks Off
Kent Police have kicked off a bold campaign across Ashford to tackle knife crime head-on. Running through February and March, the initiative aims to educate all ages about the dangers of carrying knives. Organised by the Ashford Community Safety Unit, the drive seeks to spot when someone might be at risk of exploitation by criminals.
Events Target Schools, Parents, and Communities
Following last year’s success, officers have upped the ante with a series of events and activities. Presentations will hit all secondary schools and youth clubs around Ashford, featuring officers and guest speakers sharing real-life stories from the frontline. Volunteer Police Cadets will also be out engaging with shoppers, residents, and business owners.
Parent and Guardian Sessions Offer Crucial Advice
On 26 and 27 March, special information evenings in Ashford and Tenterden will help parents and guardians learn how to protect their children from drug and knife crime. Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes, Ashford’s District Commander, said:
“While knife crime in Kent has fallen, even one incident shatters a community. Safety is our priority, so we’re continuing to educate to prevent future harm.”
“Business owners have a key role, too. During the campaign, we’ll remind shops of their legal duties when selling knives.”
“Parents might feel their kids are safe, but it’s vital to recognise warning signs and know where to find support.”
“Carrying a knife can lead to tragic outcomes. Our goal is to empower everyone to keep Ashford safe.”
