Chaos erupted in Liverpool city centre on Monday evening when a car crashed into a crowd celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League title win. The incident on Water Street at around 6pm left pedestrians injured and stunned onlookers in horror.

Natasha Rinaldi, watching the chaos from a nearby flat, told Sky News:

“We heard screams and looked out the window to see the car running over people. Folks tried desperately to stop it by knocking on windows and shouting at the driver. It was absolute chaos. The police arrived quickly and sealed off the scene. Ambulances came soon after.”

Emergency Services and Public Safety

Merseyside Police confirmed they were called just after 6pm about the collision involving the car and several pedestrians. They said:

“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services remain in attendance.”

The North West Ambulance Service added they are working urgently to provide medical care for those affected.

Police cordons remain on Water Street with heavy litter and visible damage still apparent. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.
