Trump Visit Triggers Tight Security and Protest Limits in London
President Trump’s visit to London on Tuesday, 4 June, means tight security and restricted access around Whitehall. A barrier will block parts of the road and west footway just north of the Women’s War Memorial.
Pedestrians Restricted but East Footway Open
While the west side of Whitehall is off-limits, the east footway stays open for walkers. Detailed maps of all road closures and footpath restrictions for 3 and 4 June across central London are now available to help you navigate the area.
‘Together Against Trump’ Protest Plans Tweaked
The Met Police got early notice from protest group ‘Together Against Trump’ about their march from Trafalgar Square down Whitehall towards Downing Street. Police met organisers on 24 May and agreed protestors could march down the north end of Whitehall up to a barrier where a demonstration can be held with clear views of Downing Street.
“Protestors will not be marching past Downing Street at any point,” said the Met. “While we protect peaceful protest, this must be balanced against complex security needs.”
More Protests and Road Closures Expected
The Met expects several other protests around Trafalgar Square, Parliament Square, and Whitehall during the President’s visit. Motorists and pedestrians should brace for numerous road closures and diversions throughout central London.
