Portsmouth Man, 51, Held After Shocking Park Sex Attack

A 51-year-old man from Portsmouth has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape following a terrifying attack on a 20-year-old woman in Ravelin Park on Saturday evening.

Woman Targeted on Museum Road

The victim was walking along Museum Road at around 7.20pm when a man approached and asked her where she was going. Feeling uneasy, she quickly changed direction and entered Ravelin Park—located between 1 Museum and the University Student Union—to escape him.

Terrifying Assault in Park

Inside the park, the man pushed the woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her. The victim screamed, causing the attacker to flee towards Burnaby Road. She then ran out onto Landport Terrace and immediately called the police.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and CCTV Footage

Detective Inspector Penny Murray of the Amberstone Team said: “We want to hear from anyone who was near Museum Road or 1 Museum Road around the time of the attack and saw anything suspicious. Any private CCTV footage or dashcam recordings could be vital to our investigation.”

The suspect remains in custody at Portsmouth Central Police Station.
