Brighton Man Arrested Over Stolen Goods Bust at Local Shop

A 45-year-old Brighton man was arrested on Tuesday after Trading Standards uncovered what they believe to be stolen goods during a surprise inspection at a shop on St James’s Street.

Hot Chocolate Powder and Mini Eggs Seized as Evidence

Officers were spotted hauling away numerous items, including bags marked as hot chocolate powder and popular sweets like Cadbury’s Mini Eggs. Police were called to assist Trading Standards at around 1:15pm, seizing evidence from the premises.

Suspect in Custody as Police Continue Investigation

A police spokesperson confirmed: “Police were called to support Trading Standards at a shop in St James’s Street in Brighton at around 1.15pm on Tuesday (14th February). A 45-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and remains in custody at this time.”

Officers remained at the scene late into the evening, with police present until at least 7:30pm.

Council Responds to Trading Standards Raid

A council spokesperson said: “During an inspection carried out at 1 Shopper, 20 St James’ Street, our Trading Standards team found a large number of items that they suspected of being stolen. The team called the police and handed the scene over to them.”

The man is currently held in custody as investigations continue.
