Man Held After Rape Reported on Busy Manchester Street
Police have arrested a man following a shocking rape allegation on Manchester Street, Brighton, on Saturday morning.
Incident in City Centre Sparks Big Police Hunt
The distressing attack was reported just after 11am on 7 June near St James’s Street in the heart of Brighton.
A woman in her 20s is receiving support from specially trained officers after the incident. For legal reasons, her identity cannot be revealed.
A 45-year-old man was swiftly arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Detective Inspector Kirstie Neal said: “Detectives are investigating this incident, and we are appealing for all witnesses and anyone with information who has not already come forward to do so. “Anyone in the area with relevant CCTV, mobile phone, doorbell, or dashcam footage is also asked to get in touch. “It took place in a busy area just off St James’s Street, and there will be an increased police presence while this matter is investigated.”
