A 22-year-old Ryde man was arrested after a dramatic knife attack attempt outside a local convenience store in the early hours of Thursday morning, May 2.
Knife-Wielding Man Taken Down by Brave Bystanders
The shocking incident unfolded on George Street in Ryde, where CCTV footage reportedly shows the man carrying a 10-inch kitchen knife hidden behind his back just moments before the attack.
Witnesses say the man tried to stab a victim three times but missed. Quick-thinking bystanders sprang into action, wrestled the attacker to the ground, and held him until police arrived.
Heavy Police Response and Arrest
Police arrived with an impressive force—eight officers in four cars—and arrested the suspect, who was taken to Newport Police Station for questioning. Paramedics from Isle of Wight Ambulance also attended the scene.
Authorities seized the knife and a black motorcycle the man was riding without a helmet, adding to the gravity of the situation.
