Tragic Death: Man in His 50s Dies After Sea Rescue Off Eastbourne
Man Found in Distress at Sea
A man in his 50s from Eastbourne died after being pulled from the sea off the East Sussex coast on Tuesday afternoon. Coastguards were alerted at around 1:25 pm on 22nd October about a person struggling in the water.
Rapid Rescue Operation Launched
The Eastbourne Inshore Lifeboat sprang into action, joined by a coastguard helicopter from Lydd and local coastguard teams. The crew quickly located and hauled the man aboard before rushing him to shore.
Emergency Teams Fight to Save Him
Paramedics, coastguards, and police were on the beach waiting. A coastguard helicopter paramedic was winched down to give urgent medical aid. Despite their best efforts, Sussex Police later confirmed the man was pronounced dead.
Police Statement: No Suspicious Circumstances
“Police were called following concerns for a man in the sea off the coast of Eastbourne at around 2:10 pm on Tuesday, 22nd October. Emergency services responded to the scene, but sadly, the man was pronounced deceased. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. There are no suspicious circumstances, and the matter will now be handled by the coroner.”
