£14,000 Cash Stolen in Midnight Bitterne Raid
Police hunt crooks after daring cash-in-transit robbery in Bitterne precinct at 1am on Wednesday, 25 May. Three masked men struck, snatching a cash box from a 63-year-old delivery driver before making a swift escape on foot.
Robbers Strike Under Cover of Darkness
The driver was making a solo delivery to a local bank when the thieves ambushed him. Thankfully, he escaped unharmed. The trio fled with £14,000 in the stolen cash box.
Shortly after, officers found a dark-coloured Volvo abandoned on Hillgrove Road, believed to be the getaway vehicle. The stolen cash box was later dumped in nearby Rowlands Walk – but the money was gone.
Police Launch Witness Appeal
Detective Inspector James Stewart, leading the investigation, said: “We know this was late at night but anyone in Bitterne precinct, Hillgrove Road or Rowlands Walk around that time who spotted suspicious activity must come forward.”
“People working with large sums should stay alert and report anything odd. We’ve already contacted local businesses to raise awareness but urge everyone to remain vigilant.”
