Marine Police Hunt Clapham Acid Attack Suspect in Thames
Marine police are scouring the River Thames after suspicions grew that Abdul Ezedi, the man wanted for the brutal Clapham acid attack, may have plunged into the water to escape.
Last Seen on Chelsea Bridge – Now Missing
Ezedi was last spotted on Chelsea Bridge just before 11:30 PM on January 31, the night he hurled acid at a mother and her two children, leaving them seriously injured. CCTV footage shows him walking with purpose along the riverbank before vanishing from view.
Search Intensifies as Police Fear Suspect in Pain and Missing
The Metropolitan Police said Ezedi might have been hurt during the attack and could be suffering “an extraordinary amount of pain.” Commander Jon Savell confirmed: “Our enquiries continue, but we have been very closely following all the available evidence for the past week, and indications are now that Ezedi entered the water.”
Boat patrols from the Met’s marine police unit are carrying out searches at low tide over coming days, but so far, no trace or body has been found despite support from the National Crime Agency and hundreds of public tips.
Family Informed as Investigation Ramps Up
Ezedi’s family has been told about the latest developments and is receiving support from a specialist family liaison officer. Commander Savell added, “While Ezedi’s actions were abhorrent, his family will undoubtedly be struggling to come to terms with the events of the last week and this latest development.”
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old woman victim remains in hospital in critical but stable condition as police continue their urgent hunt to piece together the shocking events of that night.
