9 Shot in Washington D.C. Amid July 4 Chaos

Nine people, including two children, were injured in a shocking mass shooting in Washington, D.C., during Independence Day celebrations, police have revealed. No arrests have been made yet in the late-night attack.

Targeted Shooting Rocks D.C. Neighbourhood

Assistant Chief Leslie Parsons of the Metropolitan Police gave grim details in a video statement. Officers rushed to Meade Street in northeast D.C. just before 1 a.m. Wednesday after reports of gunfire. On arrival, they found multiple people shot but luckily all suffered non-life-threatening wounds. Victims include a nine-year-old and a 17-year-old.

Parsons described the attack as “targeted.” She said a dark SUV drove through the area and someone inside opened fire on people celebrating the July 4 holiday outside.

Ongoing Violence Spans Multiple US Cities

The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services rushed some victims to hospital, while others sought help on their own. It’s still unclear if more than one shooter was involved.

This D.C. shooting is the latest in a series of deadly mass shootings during the holiday weekend. Before July 4, shootings in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Fort Worth, Texas, left 10 dead and 38 injured.

In Fort Worth, three were killed and eight wounded in a late-night shooting after a local festival. Philadelphia saw a suspect in body armour and armed with an automatic rifle randomly firing, killing five people and injuring two boys aged two and 13.
