New Chief Fire Officer Confirmed for Essex Fire Service
Adam Eckley has been officially appointed Chief Fire Officer for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. He’s already been in charge for three intense years, steering the service through some of its toughest challenges.
Big Changes Ahead for Essex Fire Service
As Chief Fire Officer, Eckley will play a key role in the upcoming shift in governance. Starting this October, Essex’s fire and rescue service control moves from the Essex Fire Authority to the Police and Crime Commissioner. Eckley will stay on until his planned retirement in April 2018.
Eckley Reflects on Proud Achievements and Future Plans
“I am delighted to accept the post of Chief Fire Officer. It has been a privilege and honour to lead the service over the last three years, and I am extremely proud of what has been achieved,” Eckley said.
He added, “In many respects, we have led the way for other Fire Services to follow, but our work isn’t finished yet.”
Looking to the Future
Eckley revealed a fixed-term contract agreed with the Essex Fire Authority to cover his role until April 2018. He said, “I am committed to supporting a smooth governance change and will work closely with the Police and Crime Commissioner after the handover. Together, we’ll appoint my successor.”
