Teenager Stabbed to Death in Park: Police Release New CCTV as Hunt for Killers Continues

Michael Jonas, 17, Murdered in Betts Park

Detectives are desperate for witnesses five years after Michael Jonas was chased and stabbed to death by up to six males in Betts Park, Penge.

The horrific attack happened on the evening of Thursday, 2 November 2017. Michael, only 17, was stabbed multiple times and left to die alone in the park.

Emergency services were called just after 7.20pm. Officers found Michael with severe stab wounds and tried to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

New CCTV Released in Continued Murder Probe

A post-mortem confirmed Michael died from chest stab wounds and haemorrhage. The Met’s Specialist Crime Command launched an immediate murder investigation.

Now, cops have released a fresh CCTV image showing a man with a backpack leaving the park at the time of the killing. The man is treated as a witness, but police urgently want to identify him.

“Michael was a much-loved young man with his whole life ahead of him before he was cruelly taken in such a violent way,” said Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penney. “His family and friends miss him every day. We are determined to catch those responsible and bring them to justice.”

“We want to speak with anyone who was in the park that night or saw anything suspicious. Even the smallest detail could be the missing piece. Please come forward, either through 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers. Your information will be treated with strict confidence.”

Michael’s family remains devastated years on. If you have any information about the brutal stabbing, act now and help solve this tragic mystery.
