Police Bring Road Safety Lessons to Rushcliffe Schools – And Kids Are Loving It!
600+ Kids Get the Safety Lowdown
More than 600 youngsters across nine primary schools in Rushcliffe have been schooled on street safety by local police officers. The hands-on sessions included giving out trading cards featuring police vehicles and letting pupils clamber inside a real patrol car.
Rushcliffe Cops Calling On More Schools and Youth Groups
The Rushcliffe South Neighbourhood Policing Team now want to hear from other schools, plus Rainbows, Brownies, and youth groups, keen for a visit from community police. It’s part of their ongoing commitment to engage with kids and keep them safe in their neighbourhoods.
PC Kelly Carlile: “It’s About Building Trust and Keeping Kids Safe”
“It’s great to be able to visit schools and engage with pupils – in fact it’s a key part of what we do in neighbourhood policing. The road safety message has been a key element of the talks,” said PC Kelly Carlile.
“It’s vital all primary-aged children learn the basics of road safety early – it lays the foundation for a safer future. These visits also help us promote the right behaviour and build positive relationships between police and the next generation, which can only be a good thing.”
Trading Cards and Wristbands Boost Engagement
The “Rapid Responder” trading cards, inspired by kids’ favourites like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, have been a hit in sparking interest. Officers have also handed out high-vis wristbands and stickers to all the pupils attending the talks.
“Since our visits, teachers and parents have shared brilliant feedback,” added PC Carlile. “Some children have even said they want to be police officers when they grow up – which is lovely to hear.”
