The tragic story of 13-year-old Lucy McHugh has taken a heartbreaking turn. Her body was discovered in woodland near Southampton’s Sports Centre at 7:45am on Thursday, 26 July. Police have now launched a full murder investigation.
Lucy’s family has released a fresh photo showing the vibrant young girl whose life was cut far too short. Authorities are urging the public to help piece together her final movements.
Last Seen Leaving Home
Lucy was last spotted leaving her home on Mansel Road East just before 9am on Wednesday, 25 July. Detective Superintendent Paul Barton appealed for witnesses:
“We’re hoping this new photo jogs memories of seeing Lucy on the 25th July or early the following morning. Knowing where she was is vital to our investigation.”
“Lucy was carrying her jacket on a hot day, so you might recall seeing someone in a white vest top with a black jacket slung over their arm.”
“Thanks to everyone who has already spoken to police or helped spread the word at last night’s Hampshire cricket fixture and today’s Saints friendly at St Mary’s. Keep sharing this information with family and friends—it’s crucial.”
What Lucy Was Wearing
- Black jacket with white sleeves, featuring the logo of the band Falling in Reverse on the front and RADKE 01 in red on the back (possibly carried, not worn)
- White vest top
- Camouflage leggings
- Black and white Jordan 23 trainers
