Deputy Chief Constable Scoops Queen’s Police Medal for Outstanding Service

Deputy Chief Constable Barber, who joined Nottinghamshire Police in April 2017, has bagged the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished service.

A Champion for Police Wellbeing and Inclusion

Her award citation praises her as “one of the most supportive leaders of police employee wellbeing” and calls her an “exemplary role model.” DCC Barber has led groundbreaking collaboration between Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, driving improvements in diversity and joint initiatives.

The citation highlights her leadership during the Covid crisis, saying:

“Her exceptional leadership has promoted staff wellbeing at a time of exceptional challenge, delivering cost savings that protected front-line services.”

Her efforts helped create co-located training facilities, a shared drone unit, modernised occupational health, and joint estates management – all saving public money while improving service.

National Influence and Charity Work

DCC Barber’s impact extends beyond Nottinghamshire. She is a national trustee of the Police Treatment Centres and the Police Children’s Charity, supporting officers, staff, and families affected by injury or loss.

Her ability to “carry the room” through tough fiscal and operational challenges in charity work underlines her compassion and strategic skill.

DCC Barber Reacts to Honour

On receiving the medal, DCC Barber said:

“I am extremely humbled, surprised and honoured. I’m proud of the progress Nottinghamshire Police has made, especially alongside Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Seeing new officers and staff from diverse backgrounds join has been a career highlight.”

She added how vital it is to support staff facing tough challenges and praised the backing she’s had from the Chief Constable, Police and Crime Commissioners, and colleagues alike.

She also reflected on her six years as a trustee of the Police Treatment Centres and Police Children’s Charity, calling it “a real privilege” to support front-line officers and staff through difficult times.

Force Leader Applauds DCC Barber’s Achievement

Chief Constable Craig Guildford congratulated her, saying:

“On behalf of the entire force, I am delighted her dedication and significant contribution to policing and public service in Nottinghamshire has been recognised.”
