Off-Duty Cop Mown Down with Machete in Luton Moped Heist

Hero Officer Slashed While Stopping Moped Theft

An off-duty Metropolitan Police officer was brutally attacked with a machete on Saturday afternoon in Luton. The officer intervened to stop a gang trying to steal a moped but was left bleeding in the street as the suspects fled on the stolen bike.

Emergency services rushed him to hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

Top Brass Praise ‘Heroic’ Act

Temporary Bedfordshire Chief Constable Dan Vajzovic hailed the officer’s actions as “nothing short of heroic.” He said, “His courage in putting himself in harm’s way undoubtedly helped to prevent any further harm to the public. This level of wanton violence is utterly appalling and has no place on our streets.”

Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Tizard added, “Even off duty, this officer stepped into danger to safeguard others. On behalf of Bedfordshire’s residents, I thank him for his courageous action and wish him a swift recovery.”

Police Hunt Two Suspects After Daring Attack

Bedfordshire Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. The attackers are described as two men in their early 20s. One wore a black jacket and trousers. The other had a dark jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the side.

Detective Inspector Jon Stow from Luton CID said, “This brazen attack happened in a busy area and must have been terrifying for witnesses. The original victim of the attempted robbery left the scene, and we want to speak to them. We are dedicating significant resources to catch those responsible.”
