Kent Cops Crack Down on Two-Wheelers in Nationwide Safety Blitz

Kent Police are hitting the streets hard for a two-week road safety campaign targeting cyclists, motorcyclists, and e-scooter riders. Starting Monday 12 April, officers from the Roads Policing Unit and Special Constabulary will be out in force, handing out advice and cracking down on unsafe riders.

Two Wheels, One Priority: Safety First

The campaign, backed by the National Police Chiefs’ Council, focuses on the dangers of riding without proper skills, knowledge, or protective gear. Officers will educate riders on staying safe and legal – especially e-scooter users, who often aren’t aware of the strict laws governing their vehicles.

E-scooters are officially classed as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs). This means they’re treated like motor vehicles under the law, with riders needing to follow the same rules as motorists.

Chief Insp. Elena Hall: “Safety Is Our Top Priority”

“Enforcing the law is business as usual for us but we welcome opportunities like this to further promote road safety messages,” said Chief Inspector Elena Hall, head of Kent Police’s Roads Policing Unit.

“We regularly partner with Kent and Medway councils, Kent Fire and Rescue, and Highways England to keep our roads safe. Over the next two weeks, our officers will be watching out for careless or dangerous riders.”

“It’s our priority to keep riders and other road users safe. We’ll also work to raise awareness among motorists about improving road safety.”

Watch Out: Kent’s Two-Wheelers Are Under the Microscope

The message is clear: Kent Police won’t tolerate dangerous riding. Whether you’re on a bike, motorbike, or e-scooter, expect to be stopped and advised. Safety isn’t optional – it’s the law.
