Island roads are under the spotlight as locals raise the alarm over dangerous driving. Complaints have flooded in about speeding, texting behind the wheel, and downright poor driving standards.
Operation Wightwash Cracks Down
Launched recently, Operation Wightwash is ramping up police action against reckless drivers. The crackdown kicked off on February 27 and runs until March 12, supported by the 123 Unit targeting offenders across the Isle of Wight.
“We’re Listening and Acting”
Chief Inspector Alex Charge told us: “There are clear public worries about road safety and driver behaviour on the Island. We’re listening, pinpointing problem spots, and working with partners to clean up the roads.”
The operation combines forces from the Road Policing Unit (RPU), the dual-skilled RP/ARV team, Neighbourhoods teams, and Response & Patrol units, all working together under Operation Mile to tackle dangerous driving.
Spot a Bad Driver? Report It Now!
The police urge residents to report any reckless driving immediately. You can call 101 or use the online police report tool to flag trouble spots. In emergencies, dial 999 without hesitation.
